service delay
we're still working on plans, but the service will probably be next week, possibly Saturday. Sounds like a lot of ice and snow is on its way to arkansas. <~rkv>
Delayed Service
We're working on details but wanted everyone to know that the service will be later this week. Due to weather, time constraints, sickness, etc. the service has been cancelled for Tuesday, February 1st. As soon as we have the day and time set, we will post it.

A few details about the service that we wanted to share. Let us know if you have questions.
Donations can be given in Ray's name to Oceans of Mercy which Ray served with when he went to South Africa http://www.oceansofmercy.com/, or the Rogers Samaritan Center soup kitchen that Ray served at http://www.samcc.org/.
Please feel free to dress comfortably for this celebration service. Also, children are welcome to attend.
After the service at http://www.fellowshipnwa.org/, we will have a feast while we celebrate and remember.
We are planning to video the service and party, so, while the weather forecast looks a little icy on Tuesday, please be careful, and we'll share the video with anyone who is unable to make it or wants a copy.
Also, Joshua and I went to a wonderful church service at Westside this morning. I'd encourage you to join us online if you're able at 5pm or 6:30pm today at http://westside-family.churchonline.org/ or you can watch the service at http://westsidefamilychurch.com/recentmessages.html and click on "Taking Responsibility" and "part 5 my opportunities" or at http://mediasuite.316networks.com/player.php?v=tiuv222n. It really is a great service for what we're going through today.

the end and a party
When Ray left this world, he was surrounded by love and prayers with Gina and Joshua at his side in a calm room.
Last night Joshua came back to Kansas City, and we had a party with balloons, cake, and flowers for Ray's unimaginably huge party with Jesus.

Thank you all for your prayers. We have been surrounded by them and they have meant so much. This morning our daddy/husband/son/brother/friend ran to his savior. God is so good, even when His plans are hard to understand.

Still in A-Fib (cont.)
The cardiologist just came by and said very casually "One shock, and he was back in rhythm." :)We're grateful for that news. More prayers answered in the affirmative. Thank you Jesus!
Still in A-Fib
Dad's heart is still racing. The cardiologist is wanting to shock dad's heart to get it back into a normal rhythm. They came back to get consent and mom asked that he speak with dad's pulmonologist (he's kinda been taking the lead so far) before doing it. They are consulting now. Please join us in praying for wisdom for the doctors and the right move to be made for dad - what ever that is, for dad's comfort and peace whatever happens, and God's grace on us all. Thanks for praying, thank you Jesus for listening. Amen.
Dialysis this morning (cont.)
Have a little more information, but first thanks for your prayers. They are being answered in the affirmative right now. This was another A-Fibrillation episode. He had one a couple of days ago, and they got it under control with medication and then his heart maintained a normal rythem for two days until this morning's episode. His heart rate has been normal to high (70 -100 beats per minute). During this morning's A-fib episode it spiked into the 180s. When I do the math on that it just astounds me. 180/60 = 3 beats a second. I see something like that and think the human heart just can't take much more than that. It just sounds impossible. While everything else going on with dad certainly makes it very serious, one website I checked this morning said that A-fib patients can exhibit heart rates as high as 300-600 times a minute. Even at the low end; 300/60 = 5 beats a second. I can't twitch my fingers that fast. It boggles my mind the device God made when He made the human heart that can survive stress like that. Thankful this morning that dad's A-fib was not worse and that it is in fact coming down (at last check he was in the 140s). Love you all. Thanks for your prayers. Thanks Jesus for listening.
Dialysis this morning
Hi everyone, love some prayers for this morning. Dad was in his dialysis treatment (this must be his 5th or 6th so far) and his heartrate spiked through the roof. His doctor is back there now and they are working to get it back down into a healthy range. Thanks for praying. Thank you Jesus for listening.

They're switching Ray's bed right now. Please pray that he is able to handle this well. Thank you.
Maybe switching beds today
Dad is partway through dialysis this morning. His numbers are not stellar, but they always seem to bump up after a good dialysis treatment. The issue for today and a great thing to be praying about is the impending bed switch-a-roo. Sometime today, probably around three, they are going to move him to an air bed. See, normally they can roll a patient to their right or left by stuffing pillows under them to help prevent bed sores. Dad's numbers take a nose dive when they turn him to the right and do only okay when they turn him to the left (I think I have the directions correct). Anyway, he is likely to develop really bad bed sores unless they can get him in a more advanced bed that can adjust him more easily and in a more therapeutic way. The fear (and one of the main reasons they have not done this yet) is that he is too fragile to tolerate the transfer. Again, they are thinking around three for that; we'd love some prayers for that to go well. Thanks all!

In the ICU at Mercy, they have a 1:1 nurse to patient ratio. Joshua says the setup there is really nice. Last night's nurse said that last night was the best night Ray's had so far. Everything's been pretty stable for the past 24 hours now! His oxygen is still at 100% (obviously the highest that can go) and the pressure is at 24 (the highest it's been is 25), so hopefully they'll be able to get those things lower soon. This morning the doctor also seemed encouraged by his not declining recently.
Joshua's working from the hospital today. Thankful for laptops, wireless internet, and a great job. Joshua said it feels good to be able to do something that's a little more predictable and normal routine.

blog for ray
I'm Ray's daughter-in-law. I've been getting updates from Joshua (his son) on the phone, and I've been updating facebook with prayer requests. I thought this might work better for people who don't have access to my facebook. Also, my mom reminded me that we read it's good to keep a journal for people who are going through something similar to what Ray is. If he recovers, he'll probably want to know what happened while he was sedated. I know I would. How strange to miss out on days of your own life. If God decides to take him on Home, then his family still has this blog as a memory of all the people thinking of him, visiting him, and praying for him in his final days. This can also be a place for people to share your comments and prayers for Ray. I will put updates on here soon. Thank you for caring and praying!

Although Ray is still in critical condition and very sick, we're so thankful for a fairly good day for him. Noah is still sick with a fever and Cheryl's still staying with him, Kristen's feeling a little better but still sick, and Gina says she feels almost all better. I guess they don't have vomiting and diarrhea but do have fevers and coughing.
